Mazeej was Established
In 1988, ‘Mazeej’ was established as a household catering business by Mrs. Amina Abubaker Janahi to bring handcrafted Bahraini delicacies to her neighbours and community. Her speciality revolved around rich Arabian tastes that boasted the region’s culture and heritage. An order of 300 kgs of confectionary for the opening of the Bahrain National Museum was the turning point for the family-run business.

Rangeena and business rise
The business flourished and the second branch was opened in 1996 in Mahooz. In the same year, the production shifted from the household to a factory located in Riffa, to keep up with the increasing demand.

Launch of Chocolate & Co
Business has now been taken over by newly founded Chocolate & Co. A collaboration of two parties with an extensive background in the chocolate industry is the secret to our successful endeavours. Having teamed up with Mr. Bassim El Aoubari, a third generation Lebanese chocolatier with extensive experience in managing large-scale chocolate factories, the venture achieved a paramount empire in the industry.

Private Equity Investors were invited
Chocolate & Co. as Kingdom of Bahrain’s leading premium chocolates and confectionery manufacturer successfully raised a second round of private equity with participants from both the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Chocolate & Co. operated as a medium-sized production facility in Sanad in Bahrain, however due to the capital injection; it was progressing in the construction of its new larger facility located in the Bahrain International Investment Park, Salman Industrial City, Hidd.

Moving to State-of-the-art Facility
Chocolate & Co.’s state-of-the-art facility is anticipated to comprise of a modern 13,530 square foot facility, constructed on a 43,000 square foot plot, with a total investment of over US$1.7 million. Given its current annual turnover of more than US$1.3 million, the new manufacturing plant will enable increases in return through expansion of production capacity from its current level of 300 kilograms per day to 1,200 kilograms per day (438 tons per year).

The growth of Chocolate & Co was strengthened by acquiring international quality and food safety accreditations of ISO 9001:2008 and EN ISO 22000:2005, that ensured the highest commitment to quality control and sustainability.

Chocolate & Co. was awarded Halal Certificate Award in year of 2019. We are committed to manufacturing halal chocolate, composed of the ingredients in compliance with the Halal standards.

We aim proudly present our Bahraini product worldwide, with an aim to franchising it and becoming the most trusted chocolatier in the region.

Additionally, our up-and-coming chocolate model “Burg” will focus on business to business, serving chocolate shops as well as HORECA sectors with blocks of cooking chocolate. Burg will also produce a line of exclusive chocolate bars that will be sold in leading supermarkets and duty-free shops at airports worldwide.
